Welcome to the Kansas Eye Bank & Cornea Research Center Internet Site.
The Kansas Eye Bank & Cornea Research Center is the only Kansas based nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to giving one of the greatest gifts one can give: restoration of eyesight. We have shared the gift of sight with over 12,000 people since 1986, and are FDA accredited and a member of the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) which provides more than 45,000 corneas for transplantation each year.
Located in Wichita, Kansas and founded by Kansas physicians, our Eye Bank offers advanced eye banking services to the communities and hospitals that we serve in Kansas. Due to our unique programs, we are able to offer unlimited upper age for eye donation, unique nursing conferences held throughout the state, and higher consent rates than most other eye banks. These programs assure that each donor gift is used to its maximum potential.
We are proud to be a member of the Lions Clubs International. Our offices serve as a drop sight for eye glasses.
Our foundation, The Wichita Eye Foundation, supports our charitable program "Operation Restore Sight " . This program helps uninsured citizens of Kansas receive a sight saving corneal transplant. Through this program we also created one of the first charitable physician training centers of its kind in the United States; located in Wichita. Eye surgeons from countries with no eye donation, and/or limited cornea transplant services and eye banks can learn new skills and then return home to restore vision in their home country. In 2009 we trained 8 surgeons. Our physicians, who were trained in Wichita through this program, have successfully performed over 250 transplant procedures in their home countries.
